Gothic Poems

     An example of a Gothic poem is the "The Raven" by Edgar Allen Poe. Many aspects throughout the poem fits in with the idea of it being Gothic. Edgar Allen Poe being known for writing scary and Gothic poems, adds more suspense into his stories and poems. The poem needs to have special categorization to be  a Gothic poem. One example is, it has a very bleak setting. The whole poem takes place at a very dark and scary place. "The Raven" also has many supernatural aspects. The raven talks back to the guy as if it was real. The narrator also feels the room getting very dense and stuffy. All this adds to the suspense.
     The narrator had lost Lenore. Lenore was his lover who he misses very much. He feels as if she had come back and was standing right next to him. This is a example of macabre. Through many of these examples we can categorize "The Raven" as a Gothic poem. There are examples of bleak settings, death, and many supernatural events. This poem is a great example of a Gothic poem.
