Overdoing Child Abuse?

Monte Morin had published the article, "Man held in boy's disciplining with metal rod at parents' request'", in the LA Times newspaper. A man had struck a fifteen year old boy with a metal rod several times as disciplinary actions with the permission of the child's parents. The parents had found a lighter with the boy and suspected him of smoking. They hired a man who was known of disciplining children. The man felt that the boy was lying to him about smoking so with the permission of the parents, struck the boy in the back of the leg twelve times, causing many injuries and bruising. The boys school seeing all the bruising, filed a report to the Child Protective Services. The man's name was Kim, who was arrested by San Bernardino Sheriff's Department. He was released from jail on December 8 for a $1 million bail.
This article is very important because the percentage for child abuse has gone up by a big margin. Everyday it is increases. Parents find this as a easy way to scare and discipline their children, instead of sitting down and talking to them the correct way. I think there needs to be a movement towards an abuse free nation. It is very important because the children are getting physically and mentally hurt.

  1. Great article my dear Andre! This is a sad story and proves the point how stupid and arrogant parents can be sometimes. Also, I agree with the fact that actions are supposed to be taken in order to stop such cruel disciplines.

  2. Andre, this article is very important, especially because it gets the word out about child abuse. So many children throughout the United States face child abuse. Some are not as lucky as this child in your blog, because they go years without telling anyone about it, only facing the physical and mental pain from domestic violence, or abuse in general. Much more efforts should be put into this matter. Good job, keep up the good work!

  3. Andre I think this is a great post. It shows a great example of a child abuse case and gives details about the subject. Sadly, I do not agree with your opinion. I think that child abuse laws are too strict and should not be taken so seriously. Many people say that child abuse is bad and cruel, while they disciple their children very strictly. The fact of the matter is that parents have to use some type of force, usually physical, to get the attention of a child and stop him/her from doing an unwanted action. Child abuse laws have even made some children have to power to control their parents! I personally think this is worse than a little bruise. The fight against child abuse has been taken too far.

  5. Good job Andre! If school authorities did not notice his bruises he would probably still live in an abusive household. It's ridiculous how these people think that physically abusing their child is a form of discipline. I agree that parents should sit down and talk to their children the correct way. Keep up the good work!
