The article "Obama to Congress: Americans want action now on jobs", written by Christi Parsons, Don Lee and Michael A. Memoli, found in the LA Times newspaper, talks about Obamas tax package. The United States' unemployment rate has skyrocketed to 9.1%! The president, Barack Obama, is attempting to create a $447 billion legislative package which will provide tax cuts on working families and small businesses. He does not feel that this package is controversial but he does understand it was a higher price tag then he expected. However, Obama did not explain how he was going to be able to pay this package, but he did promise it will not affect the debt that the country is in currently. Mark Zandi, chief economist of Moody's Analytics, did foreshadow that if the package was put into effect, the unemployment rate could drop down to eight percent.
This article should be important to all citizens of America. If this package gets approved, the unemployment rate could drop a whole one percent effecting a big chunk of the population. The lower the unemployment rate, the better the economy and the lower the prices of goods. As soon as people start to make money, they start to spend which in return increases the economy. Obama is planning on passing as many packages as he can before the reelection for presidency incase he does not get reelected. He also has a change to the unemployment insurance program, which he has pushed to the side for now.
