"A Journey Through Texas"

In the short story, "A Journey Through Texas", Alvar Nunez Cabeza de Vaca, a spanish explorer, is sent by the king and queen of Spain to explorer the lands of America. He arrives to Texas in 1528, meeting many Indians as he continues his travels. The tone of the story changes many time as he explores new lands, being exposed to many new aspects of life. Cabeza de Vaca starts off the story very descriptive and informative but as the story progresses, anger and death come into play. As the Spanish were yelling at the Indians, some of them died, and was thought the Spanish had special powers. The purpose of the story was for Cabeza de Vaca to get money from Spain for his exploration and also to inform the people back in his country, how America was like.
Cabeza de Vaca wanted to continue his journey through the deserts, but was warned by the Indians it would be very dangerous and many could have died from hunger and thirst. But, he decided to move on going through many difficult times, but at the end it all paid off. They got permanent lands, having stable homes, with gardens of squash, corn, and blankets of cotton. The subject of this story was exploration and knowledge for all those who wanted to know about these vast lands. Now living in a technological era, exploration by humans is no longer required. Back in the 16th century, exploration had just began and it was a big deal. Cabeza de Vaca was one of the explorers who wanted to inform everyone about his travels.
